The frost is on the pumpkin and the leaves are falling fast. While the leaves swirling outside the sewing machines are whirling inside. The ladies learned new skills. They help each other and bring in samples to share. What joy to share with friends and while they are sharing. They are making beautiful handmade gifts for our CHRISTMAS IN THE COUNTRY BAZAAR! There will be lovely pillows, aprons, towels, placemats, wall hangings, etc.
We are hoping to have homemade noodles, candies, and other bake goods. Put these dates on your calendar: December 5, 6, 8, 9. Hope to see you then.
Come along and join the fun as we send Teresa, Jo, and Tom to new adventures! We will be eating at the Old Country Buffet at 11:00 am on November 16. Call the Center @ 862-4475 for reservations.

Just a reminder - this levy is a renewal and WILL NOT RAISE YOUR TAXES!!! Thanks for your vote.
Spring Valley is a community center and everyone is welcome to participate.

SPRING VALLEY TOWNSHIP FIRE DEPARTMENT — Phyllis Keferl
NEWS FROM THE SPRING VALLEY TWP. FIRE DEPARTMENT
More than one-third of Americans use fireplaces, wood stoves and other fuel-fired appliances as primary heat sources in their homes. Unfortunately, many people are unaware of the fire risks when heating with wood and solid fuels. Heating fires account for 30% of residential home fires in rural areas every year. Often these fires are due to creosote buildup in chimneys and stove pipes. All heating systems require regular maintenance to function safely and efficiently.
We encourage you to practice the following fire safety steps to keep those home fires safely burning.
Have your chimney or wood burning stove inspected and cleaned annually by a certified chimney specialist.
Clear the area around the hearth of debris, decorations and flammable materials.
Use a metal mesh screen with fireplaces. Leave glass doors open while burning a fire.
Keep air inlets on wood stoves open, and never restrict air supply to fireplaces. Otherwise you may cause creosote buildup that could lead to a chimney fire.
Use fire-resistant materials on walls around wood stoves.
Never use flammable liquids to start a fire.
Use only seasoned hardwood. Soft, moist wood accelerates creosote buildup.
Build small fires that burn completely and produce less smoke.
Never burn cardboard boxes, trash or debris in your fireplace or wood stove.
When building a fire, place logs at the rear of the fireplace on a strong supporting grate.
Never leave a fire in the fireplace unattended. Extinguish the fire before going to bed or leaving the house.
Soak hot ashes in water and place them in a metal container outside and away from your home.
Keep the roof clear of leaves, pine needles and other debris.
Cover the chimney with a mesh screen spark arrester,
Remove branches hanging over the chimney, flues or vents.
Install smoke alarms on every level of your home. Test them regularly and change the batteries twice a year.
Carbon monoxide detectors should also be installed since CO presents an increased danger when your house is closed up and heating sources are used.
Don’t forget to have your furnace inspected and to replace the filters on a regular basis.
We want you to have a safe heating season. House fires can be prevented. Please do your part. If you have any questions or concerns, please call the fire house at 862-5011. We’re always glad to help you.
We want to remind you that the fire levies in November are RENEWALS and NOT increases or additional monies. We want to be able to continue to help the community by providing excellent service to you.
